She's back. Maguire, the Division
2 runner of the year last year, captured the honor again.
A junior, Maguire padded her resume after winning the Division
2 individual state championship last year. This season, Maguire
won the EMass meet in Division 3 with a time of 18:34. She
finished second at All-States (18:47) to Emily Jones of Bromfield.
The two had one of the best rivalries in the state and both
will be back to challenge each other next year. At the Brown
Invitational, she finished fourth in 18:12. She has lost only
one dual meet in her career. ''She has an incredibly hard
work ethic,'' coach Joe Colbert said. ''She's gifted no doubt,
but she matches her talent with her work ethic.''
Keara Thomas, GDA
ISL
CROSS-COUNTRY
The 5-foot-2-inch senior finished
her career at Governor's as she started it: without a loss.
A three-time All-Scholastic, Thomas never suffered defeat
in four years of competition. In fact, the ISL champion never
really came close. At the NEPSTA Division 3 championships,
Thomas finished 1 minute 5 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
The closest the Haverhill native came to losing was a 22-second
margin of victory at her home course, a race in which she
shaved 13 seconds off her school record with a time of 18:54.
Thomas also enjoys dance and track and trains with the Lynx
Elite Athletic Club.
